Came across this Japanese company, K-Spec, that produces aero parts/body kits and exhausts/mufflers for Japanese vans and K-cars. Their aero parts division goes under the smooth name of “Silk”. They go along a bit with the VIP theme with the large bumpers and huge muffler tips. I love the fog lights they add to the front!

Their kits aren’t too over the top and the dual tip muffler works nicely with the SILK kit.

Here’s another Kei-car tuner out of Japan – Butterfly System. A trend that we keep seeing in the Kei-car aero kits is the application of aftermarket fog lights integrated in to their front bumper.

Their 10th anniversary special kit for the Suzuki Wagon RR. This has to be one of my favorites demo cars. The use of chrome and white makes it very classy looking.

pregia tissimo – kei-car tuning pt. 3

Pregia Tissimo is another Kei-Car tuning specialist, that offers original body kits and exhaust pieces among other products. Pictured here is the new Suzuki Wagon-R which is a pretty basic car to start with. The lowered stance and new grille and bodykit transforms the inexpensive Suzuki in to something special. This example flows very nicely with its clean and crisp approach.

I especially like the work that they do with the rear valence/mufflers. The details are very well done, looking like it rolled out of the Suzuki factory this way. broSTAR – kei-car tuning pt. 2

BroStar’s demo cars emphasize “wide & low form, the principle of BROSTAR. It is such pure VIPSTYLE that BROSTAR advocates” (one of their mottos). Their products range from aero parts, suspension, and interior dress up pieces such as a front passenger table. I like the blue color that they apply to all of their show vehicles. Pictured above is their VAMOS with original aero parts and Work Meister 15×7 +35 front 15×7.5 +25 rear wheels.

Here is a HIJET-Cargo from Daihatsu with the same wheels as above. Gotta love how low it is!

A post about Brostar wouldn’t be complete without showing their famous tuned Kei-trucks. Here is a Daihatsu HIJET-Truck used to deliver … well, whatever would fit in the small bed. k-break-ing – kei car tuning pt. 1

This week I have decided to devote all posts to modifying of JDM “Kei-Cars”. If you are not familiar with what a Kei-Car is, it is a very popular auto segment in Japan, due to their size, practicality, and to avoid extra costs with insurance, parking, and taxes. For example, on a ferry ride that I took, your ticket cost is determined is by total length of your car. Most Japanese car manufacturers offer a plethora of these tiny machines, from wagons and vans to trucks. To be considered as a Kei-Car, your length must be under 3.4 m and your engine under 660cc.

Naturally, the Japanese way of tuning is very detailed and complete. K-Break shows this Honda Life equipped with original aero parts and Weds Kranze wheels. I really like the original front fenders. Also, no need to go above 17″ for wheel size on Kei-cars…

Kei-car tuning, to me, is one of the most entertaining forms of tuning to come from Japan. A very small car is taken as the canvas (often 600cc or less engine) and is modded up with aero pieces and full slammage. 15″-16″ wheels can look proper on these cars, as demonstrated with this Honda Life Dunk by Butterfly System. This is one of their demo cars among many other Kei-cars. Notice the large exhaust tips, sort of a cue from VIP Style tuning, along with the cambered, flush wheels and OEM-look aero pieces.
